CORONAVIRUS, A TURBULENT STOCK MARKET

AND A BOOMING HOUSING MARKET!

Wow, what a whirlwind this past week was! Coronavirus, a turbulent stock market, and a booming housing market! We took precautions at my mega open house with mini sanitizer giveaways, and I shook less hands than normal.... I was just at Disneyland for two days and nobody seemed to care about the coronavirus though. I personally think the media has blown this way out of proportion and is causing a lot of fear. Yesterday at Ralph's they were sold out of toilet paper!

So far, the new coronavirus has led to more than 89,000 illnesses and 3,000 deaths worldwide. But that's nothing compared with the flu, also called influenza. In the U.S. alone, the flu has caused an estimated 32 million illnesses, 310,000 hospitalizations and 18,000 deaths this season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

At the same time, the housing market is booming! I've had one of my busiest weeks in a while. With multiple offers way over asking on my listings. Here's another thing to consider - Historically, during election years, the real estate market has boomed in the Spring, will slow down in the months leading up to the election (Aug, Sept, Oct), then boom again right after elections in November, December and January of 2021. So if you're considering selling, this spring is the time. If you are buying, I would still recommend buying this Spring as interest rates dropped down to a record low of 3.5% again, there is slightly more inventory now, and you would get ahead of this year's predicted appreciation with continued rising housing prices in San Diego. So the choice is yours!
